So, there were eight adults, one toddler and two babies at our friend's house this evening. Guess what we were watching? That's right, Riley had us watching Cars, the Disney movie with cartoon characters Lightning McQueen, Mater the Tow Truck, and Sally the Porsche. It can double as an adult movie if Larry the Cable Guy is the voice of Mater, right? Right??!! Why aren't you answering? Wait, are you laughing?

Re-restart
So, I have re-restarted school. (Is re-restarted a word?) Since Bree has been born I believe I have taken two or three breaks from school. Sometimes her schedule just gets so crazy and jumbled up that I have a hard time balancing everything and once my grades slip (yes, an A- is slipping to me) I realize I need to take a break. So, this past Tuesday I restarted school again after a three month break.
However, I have a plan in place. I will be answering questions and participating on Tuesday and Thursday nights. On Saturday, I will take the laptop and go to a local coffee shop to work on any papers and "big" assignments I have for that class for a few hours in the morning. And then, on Monday I will finish up any loose ends for that work week and turn in any papers or assignments that were due. Online school weeks (at least for UOP) run from Tuesday to Monday so I do have the weekend available to do schoolwork.
I only have 10 classes left until student teaching is in order, and then after that....graduation and a Bachelor's degree in Early Elementary Education (which qualifies me for teaching K-8). I am hoping that by getting out of the house on Saturdays, it will allow me the peace and quiet in order to work quickly and efficiently so that I may return home to my giggling, loud, and goofy family! (and not get A -'s)

An adventurous day!
(Disclaimer: So, you all know me pretty well by now. I have a bit of a sarcastic side to me. The title of this blog is meant to be sarcastic.)
Let's begin this story in the wee hours of the morning. That's right Folks! 2 AM! I awoke to the sound of Bree throwing up in her bed coming over the monitor. (For the past two weeks Bree has been a bit of a medical mystery. She has been throwing up unexplainably, been fussy (which is out of character), and had some heavy breathing at times). After getting her cleaned up, and back down in a clean bed (without her nighttime feed to possibly curb more upchuck) I headed back to bed. Bree fussed and was up until 3, so we didn't drift off to sleep until after then.
When the sunlight crept over our back wall around 6, the girls and I were up and dressed already! I was trying to change the TV over to where Riley could watch a movie and to do that I had to stand on a chair due to how our living room is set up. While I was stepping off of the chair I came down on a wooden toy car and hurt my left foot. I worked on getting Bree ready for therapy by feeding her for the morning. Since she had thrown up in the night I figured I would break her feed up into two portions to make it easier on her tummy. Right after the first half of her feed, she threw half of it up!
I called and canceled her therapy, and made an appt with the pediatrician. Our good friend Aleasha was able to watch Riley for me so that I did not have to cart around an antsy toddler with me.So off to the pediatrician we went! While there our P.A. was worried about the possibility of pneumonia so I was told that we needed to get Bree a chest x ray. The first office I went to told me that their x ray machine was down for at least an hour and a half but I was welcome to wait. No thank you! So off to another office of theirs I went.
After checking in, and being called back I got Bree out of the car seat. The x ray technician told me to go ahead and sit Bree on the table she had set up. I told her Bree doesn't sit up, and she goes "Not even a little? Can't you support her?" I explained that if I did that she would not get a very good x ray because she is a bit too wobbly. I did explain Bree's background at that point and she offered to switch up the x ray machine so that Bree could lay down.
Finally x ray was done and Bree and I were headed back to Aleasha's to pick up Riley. After a successful visit and pickup we were headed home for nap. Finally, the day was slowing down a bit. We had Bree's therapist over at 3 and during that visit the pediatrician called to let me know the results of Bree's x ray. It showed that she has streaks of opacity in her lungs (shadows) and it showed that her bronchial walls were inflamed. All signs point towards some sort of virus, so we are going to be doing three breathing treatments a day for the next week. If no improvement in a week, we will be headed back to the doctor.
In other news, my left foot is swollen, bruised, and hurts to walk on. If it is not better after some ice and R&R, off to the doctor I will head!
Tonight, I hope we all sleep well...nighty night, sleep tight!

Our Babbling Beauties!
Riley is little miss babbling beauty herself these days! She is learning language so fast, and comprehending how to use it, that it blows my mind. However, there are still times that we have no clue what she is saying.
"Look" = "yook. This was used today as Riley was pointing and saying "yook Mama yook Bree" and as I looked Bree had one of Riley's headbands on.I have a picture of it I will post when I get to editing it.
Identifying body parts = "fuckyas" are fingers (that one took us a while to figure out), "eyes", "nose", "mouth" is mouf, "toes", leg, arm...the list goes on and on!
Singing along with songs and with gusto! She will belt them out out of no where and accent different parts of the song by raising and lowering her voice.
"Uh-oh! Broke it!" is usually followed by her saying "Yay Riley!!" (I swear none of us taught her that)
Bree is also become little miss babble mouth too! Here's what she's saying these days:
"Shhhhhhhtttttt" = "(I will let you figure that one out on your own)"
"Ba bo ba bo"
"Ba ba ba"
"KKKkkkkkkkk"
Drumroll please! Bree said "Da da" today while looking right at Adam. It made Daddy so happy and he was so so proud!

A treat in the night
Tonight, for the the first time in a very long time, Adam came home early from work. Yes, I used the word 'tonight' in the same sentence as 'home early from work'. You see, that is because he works the night shift. Sunday night through Thursday night I sleep alone in our bed and Adam is at work. All alone in the wood four post queen bed with four pillows and only one head to try and occupy them all. So, when he does come home from work early, or on the weekends, even though we are sleeping, it is nice to know that he is there.
It is the half awake rolling over in the night when it is most comforting. To roll over and to have the knowing that your significant other is right there beside you, just as comfortable and relaxed as you are, relaxes me right back to sleep. So, it is a treat when Adam comes home from work early and at 3 am slips into our bedroom whispering "It's just me Babe" and two seconds later is sliding into the crisp cold sheets that are right beside me. He slides his arm under my head and wraps his other around my waist and we drift off to sleep just like that. Sigh.....THAT is a treat in the deep dark night.

Milestone....
Now, most people do not consider dropping your kid off at nursery during church a milestone. However, when you have a preemie with special needs, you have a whole slew of milestones you weren't aware of, which leaving your kid at nursery while you go to church service is one of them.
We have been fading out of the church scene for a while (which is a whole other thing...totally not going to get into it), and got a sudden itch to go this weekend. So, we loaded up the kiddos, and off we headed! We were stoppped by many to be asked questions and greeted, which was great. We got to see some familiar faces and some new ones as well. I, for some reason, was feeling brave and comfortable enough to leave Bree in the nursery.
Funny enough, Riley was the problem child the whole time. She wanted to sit on one person the whole time and would not play, would not allow them to change her diaper, and would cry if anyone attempted to suggest those two things. Somehow they managed to give her a snack, but that was it. Bree was the chill one who sat in the swing and just watched all of the action.
All in all it was a good Sunday...(it must have been because Adam is snoozin on the couch now)
Zzzzzzz....Zzzzzzzz...ZZzzzzz....nothin like an afternoon nap to make the weekend feel complete.

Summer Vacations
The month of July is notorious for vacation. I think it should be declared national vacation month officially! Not to be left out, we went on vacation this July to Washington state where our family lives. More specifically, we went to help out Adam's parents remodel their house! The house turned out great and we managed to squeeze in some fun. What made this trip extra special was that this was the first time since 2000 that all of Adam's siblings and their kids too were in the same place. So, we had to squeeze in some family pictures of course! Here is some of the pictures from our trip, and from the family pictures as well.

ABORT MISSION!
Here's how potty training went...
Day 1: Pretty good...few accidents but we had positive attitudes all around!
Day 2: The morning was wonderful and Riley had a great attitude! We had 17 accidents that morning, but we were still doing the happy dance for when the panties were dry. The afternoon started to go downhill when we would ask Riley if her panties were dry. She would scream "NO!" at us. We'd remind her we don't scream and we'd get a quieter "no".
Day 3: Full on melt downs whenever we'd ask if she was dry...if we tried to hustle to the potty during an accident and full out tantrums if we even SUGGESTED she sit on the potty. After a good few hours of that I called it and said:
ABORT MISSION POTTY TRAINING!!! ABORT ABORT!
(So for now we are waiting until Riley shows us she is ready again.)

Some bench time
Sooo...is it bad that we spend enough time at the local children's hospital that I recognize when they have redecorated a bench? Not just A bench...two in fact! Bree and I got to spend a lovely half day together just her and I. No, it was a Mommy/littlest daughter date...it was a "Bree-possibly-might-have-an-infected/granulation-tissued/displaced-g-tube" sort of day.
We started out the day as any other. However, when Adam went to feed her (after coming home from working all night), he fed her and then two minutes later up it all came. Now her g-tube has been looking pretty nasty as of lately despite my every two hour cleaning attempts the past two days. It has been oozing so much it was forming scabs that when I would remove the pad to replace it with a clean and fresh one it would tear off and cause her g tube site to start bleeding.
After this mornings vomit attack, I said "ENOUGH!" (okay, I didn't really yell it out loud, but in my head I did) and called the surgeon who deals with the mechanics of the tube itself. They rushed us into an appt at 945, so Bree and I were off! (Leaving poor tired Adam home with pee pee puddles Riley). During the appt, Dr. Rowe was concerned with the amount of drainage we were having so she took the opportunity to burn off a lot of excess granulation tissue in hopes that this was the culprit of the leaking and oozing. She also told us Bree would be having a placement study done today...which they scheduled at the soonest time....2.
That's right...2 in the afternoon (and Bree was not allowed to have anything put into her belly for food). So...Bree and I hung around at the hospital making the rounds. We went and visited her first home, the NICU, where the receptionist, Auntie Courtnee, and Becky all oohed and aahed over her and remarked how big she was. In fact, she was so big that Miss Becky kept having to boost her up while holding her. How great it is to have a chubby child! (and to think she started at 1 lb!)
Bree and I grabbed some lunch (okay, I did!) and headed out to the playground/garden area where I noticed the said newly refinished bench. It is a little different from the rest and the black and white contrast of the bench really doesn't fit in too much with the brightly colorful bead encrusted other benches. (Can you tell we've been there a bit too much?)
After eating a wonderful baked potato for lunch we then went and checked in for her study. We happened to see our other friends (who also seem to call the hospital home!) Anneke and Felix while they were enjoying lunch with a friend. (Their daughter Grace, is in the hospital once again for suspected H. Pulori infection and some lung issues too) Once we were called back for Bree's study it only took ten minutes and all checked out well! Bree and I packed up the car (stroller, diaper bag..you know the usual!) and headed off into the sunset towards home.
(Okay, so I am exaggerating a bit...it was only 4 pm. But it felt like we should have been heading into the sunset with how long of a day it was.)
OH! And that other newly refinished bench...it is one of the ones outside. In case you were wondering. And, that one matches quite nicely with all the others.

Role reversal...and other things
In our house for the past two days we have had a role reversal. Normally it is Riley that we are telling "I am busy with Bree, you need to wait a minute and I will get to you when I am done with Bree...thank you!" However, we undertook the tremendous task of potty training Riley. So now, it is Bree that is being left on the floor playing alone because sister has peed all over the floor.
This is not without good cause because we have had successes. Today (just a half an hour ago) she recognized she needed to go, ran to the potty, and went pee in the potty!!! After a massive love and praise fest she got to have some chocolate and watch a cartoon of her choosing. (Wubbzy of course!)
One thing that the girls are on the same page about is language! They are both talking up a storm! Bree's is more ah-oh, ba-ba, bo-ba, and EeeeeEEEE, but it is progress and it is great to hear new noises out of her everyday. This morning she said "Mom" clear as day, but I am sure we will not be hearing that again for a bit. She has been imitating noises she is hearing but I do not think she recognizes them for what they are. So far she has said, Mom, bye, and up. However, we have heard each of these on one occasion and not since then.
Riley on the other hand is pairing up old words, creating new ones and learning new ones every day! Just the other day in the car she started cracking up and saying "Ha ha ha fuuunnnn-eeee Grandma! Ha ha ha ha fuuuuunn-eee Oooba! Ha ha ha ha fuuunnnn-eeee Ya ya! Ha ha ha ha!" She named off every person she could think of. Adam and I just sat in the car and laughed with her it was too cute!
On a personal note, I am going to go back to posting every day on here. I am waiting too long between posts, and then I am trying to cram all this info into a "update" post. So, come with me on my journey...there might be some late night nonsense posts, but it's all in the spirit of fun, right?

Two small (okay not so small) things about our two beautiful girls
#1 - Riley is now transitioned to a big girl bed. This is because of her apparent wanting to be potty trained. I am a firm believer that if we are going to potty train it is going to be 24-7...none of this "During the day we go in the potty, but at night you go in your pants" business. No offense to those who do that, it is just not our choice.#2 - Bree now has her second bottom tooth. I cannot wait until they come in more and I can see that adorable two tooth smile I love so much! It has got to be the cutest look on a baby that I have ever seen! And as many of you know...with how much she smiles it is bound to be BEAUTIFUL!

Here we go again....
Sooo...Adam and I have decided to get pre approved for a house loan and to start looking around. We would like to have a 4-5 bedroom house. Yeah yeah I know a lot of you are saying "What?! Why so big??" but trust me, we have good reasons. I cannot post the explanation (very long and involved) but if I ever see you in person I promise to explain if you ask.
We've already been pre approved for $150,000, but we are trying to stay in the $130 and below zone. (Me being cheap and wanting the best deal for our money!)
If we get a two story we will need to have one bedroom downstairs just in case Bree isn't able to navigate stairs. (This is me thinking ahead, no doctors have suggested anything!!). If she doesn't need it for a bedroom, then we'll have a great guest room! (We're taking reservations if you'd like to come and stay).
Adam and I are excited about this new chapter opening in our lives...especially with all the craziness we've had in the last year. It's nice to be starting something new in our lives! :)

Update on Sweet Grace

Despite all the tubes, wires and tape, little Grace is doing better every day. Her surgery was a success, and she shouldn't have to have another heart surgery for a good bit of time. She looks much better than she did after her last heart surgery, which is good news! Grace and her parents (Anneke and Felix) have another 2-3 weeks for recovery in the hospital and then may be going home. I know that they are counting down the days!

Complications with Grace's surgery
Here is the update from Anneke:
I am scared for them, and for sweet little Grace...please be praying my friends!
Some complications.... Tried to come off bypass, but pressures were too high. Narrowing of arteries, required patching to thicken up. Putting a hole back in heart to even out pressures, if it doesn't work, they'll take out the conduit and try a shunt. Could be several more hours... Please pray, pray, pray!! We're having a difficult time.
I am scared for them, and for sweet little Grace...please be praying my friends!
Prayers, well wishes, and supporting thoughts welcome!

Our friends Anneke and Felix will be doing much waiting today as little Grace is having her open heart surgery today. This is her second open heart surgery, but this one is a bit more complex than her first. It will start at 1230 and this one will be six hours long and consists of the surgeon opening her heart, and restructuring the inside of it. Her mom, Anneke, put this post up yesterday on facebook:
Grace will have the hole in heart closed, the collateral artery branches snipped, and a cadaver "conduit" placed as her pulmonary artery. She'll be on bypass for the entire procedure. Thanks for the prayers!
I know their family will appreciate any prayers, well wishes and/or supporting thoughts. They have also asked that if you are able to, to please light a candle for Grace today. Here is Grace's 'website' that Anneke tries to keep as updated as time allows: http://graceloren.aboutmybaby.com/
I know that all Bree's prayer warriors will be praying away! :)
P.S. The pictures above were from Grace's baptism in February!
We're BAACCKKKK!
We got back into town on Sunday and have been trying to scramble and get life back in order. Getting back into routine and life is harder than you think! Riley is of course testing all the boundaries again to find out what she can and can't do here at home, and she is learning that sitting in timeout is really not that fun. We are up to three timeouts already today!
Bree is adjusting well and will be starting physical therapy on Thursday with Phoenix Children's. She will be having it every Thursday at ten from now on. I am slowly working on getting all of her other appts in order, which I need to call a few of them back today. You'd think that they would answer their phones, but the two times I have called and left a message I have not gotten a call back. SO...I will continue to bug them and leave messages. :)
During our vacation we were able to get a LOT of work done for Adam's parents. We washed, primed and painted the walls in the living room, hallway and their bedroom. Adam and his brother Jason laid wood floors throughout those areas and then they put new electrical sockets, switches and lights in. Adam even crawled up into the attic and rewired some areas so Mama could have a fan in her living room and lights down her hallway. My sister in law Jenn helped Mama to put up some new curtains in the living room and bedroom. We did a lot more little stuff but too many to name!
Even with all of this we tried to fit in one day with all of my other family members (which worked out not as well as I had hoped, but I had explained to everyone that this trip was for Adam's parents ahead of time) We made it out to my Grandma's house on the farm, and I got some really good pictures. (me and my camera!) Overall, I learned a lot during this trip...about how to remodel a house and many new things about family.
Here's some pictures that I have edited so far:

...and we're off!
Tomorrow morning we are going to leave on a jet plane ...(everybody sing along: Leeeavin on a jet plane...don't know when I 'll be back again)...Actually we do know when we are going to be back. We are going to the good old Evergreen state of Washington from the 11th of July to the 26th. We are flyin home to visit with all of Adam's family (all under the same roof for the first time since our wedding!) and to help out his parents by laying flooring and painting their house for them.
We are going to take some time out to see my family as well and I hope that you will look forward to seeing all of our awesome pictures from our visit...expect to see them in August! Small updates soon to follow.. :)
